Bobby and I signed up for the Grasshoppers Distribution CSA and picked up our first box on Thursday! We got festival squash from Lexington, Turnips from Fishersville, Maple Syrup from Salem, IN , Greenbeans from Orleans, IN… apples, green tomatoes, spinach fettuccine, greens, eggplant and garlic all from local farms. I fixed the greens with some garlic and red wine yesterday— for lunch today we’re having eggplant parmesan. A lot of my friends have subscribed to this for years, their only complaint being that it is sometimes difficult to eat so much food! We signed up for a produce for two bi-weekly pickup so that we won’t waste anything. I’m sad we didn’t start during the summer, but I’m really excited to see what we keep getting. I think it’ll help push my cooking creativity to have surprise veggies every week— I’m going to try making a festival squash ravioli with a brown butter sage sauce next day I have some free time!
